The Mitchell Center is hosting a series of events we think you’ll love. For one week only April 16-26, our three pioneering interdisciplinary artists in residence are showcasing works that will engage the community through a combination of virtual and in-person tours, pop-ups, workshops and artist talks, with an exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum.
Our first event is an Eco-Tour with Brandon Ballengée, a visual artist, biologist, and environmental activist based in Arnaudville, Louisiana. Ballengée invites the public to join him on a catch-and-release fishing adventure as he explores the ecology of Houston’s Buffalo Bayou through photographs and other media.
He creates artwork inspired by his ecological field and laboratory research. Through research, he focuses on the impact of the Anthropocene on human and non-human communities, and his artistic practice combines participatory science programs with poetic interpretations of extinct or deformed animals due to human impact.
